In the fictional state of Bubunia, a matriarchal totalitarian country led by ruthless La générale, roles of men and women are swapped - women dominate the country while men are responsible for households. Marrying La colonelle (Charlotte Gainsbourg), the future leader of the state, is the biggest dream of every young man in the country. Poor young man Jacky is no exception. When he finally gets a chance to go the grand ball to meet her, his mother dies and his aunt takes him in but refuses him to go to the ball.
